School board candidate makes introduction

My
name is Paul Shelton, and I am running for the
Boundary County School District 101 Board of
Trustees, Zone 4, the seat currently held by
Melanie Staples. The following are statements
that I truly believe:
1. Communities that focus on quality education for their
children are successful.
2. School districts faced with limited financial resources,
if properly managed and administered, combined
with full support and trust from the community,
will persevere.
3. In the current difficult fiscal times, much can be done
with hard work, strong curriculum and passionate
instructional leadership, when the skill, will
and management direction exist within a school
district.
In 1995, I married Leslie Cook, the daughter of
Gary and Julie Cook. She was born and raised in
Bonners Ferry and graduated from Bonners Ferry
High School. Leslie and I have four children,
three of whom currently attend classes in the
Boundary County School District.
Next year, we will have children attending
Valley View, Bonners Ferry Middle School and
Bonners Ferry High School. I am honestly
concerned about the quality of their education.
I moved my office here in January, 2007. My
company, RP Shelton Inc., offers project control
and forensic investigation services for and
related to the construction industry. My
professional strengths are in process,
management and administration. I have supplied
expert testimony and written summaries relating
to construction "means and methods" and
"unprofessional business practices" for the
State Department of Justice, the State Attorney
General's Office, the Contractors State License
Board, insurance companies and for private land
owners.
Early on, Leslie and I were blessed with the
opportunity for her to be a stay at home mom.
This allowed Leslie to actively involve herself
as a parent volunteer in our children's
classrooms. As life moves on, circumstances
change and children grow older. Leslie has now
returned to the work force and I now have an
opportunity, with the election on May 17, to use
my expertise to contribute further to the
community and our children's quality of
education.
I am currently President of the Moyie Shrine
Club, and as of a year ago, started to serve on
the Boundary County Planning and Zoning
Commission. I have also coached Little League
Baseball for the past three years and last year
coached both boys and girls PTO basketball
teams.
Trust and integrity have been the foundation
stones of both my personal and professional
life. I look forward to serving as an elected
BCSD School Board trustee to use my skills to
improve the quality of education for our most
important community resource, our children. |
