The man who died May 16 during an attempted
arrest has been identified as Daniel
Mittelstadt, of Mount Shasta, California.
The Idaho State Police is awaiting toxicology
results prior to releasing the results of their
investigation.
The incident began on U.S. 95 at milepost 526
when a woman, returning home from work in
Bonners Ferry, came across Mittelstadt's car
blocking a road leading off the highway. When
she got out to see if he needed assistance, he
stepped out of the vehicle, completely nude.
She immediately returned to her vehicle, went
home by a different route and called the
sheriff's office to report the odd behavior. The
deputy who responded, who has not been named,
found Mittelstadt still naked and acting
irrationally in the highway. While attempting to
place him in custody, the man collapsed and an
ambulance was called.
Middlestadt was pronounced dead at Boundary
Community Hospital. It has not been confirmed
whether a taser was deployed in the attempt to
effect arrest. |
