Quilt to help aid 'Run for the Fallen'

Jessica Tingley's grandmother, Trudy Dinsmore,
Bonners Ferry, is an accomplished quilter, and
she recently created a beautiful patchwork quilt
as a birthday present for Jessica.
|
Instead of
keeping the quilt her Grandma made her
for the comfort of her own family,
Jessica Tingley asked if it could be
used to comfort others. |
Jessica was proud of grandma's quilt, but
prouder still that since her birthday in March,
grandma has been passing on her skills and
knowledge, teaching Jessica to be a quilter,
too.
Instead of keeping grandma's quilt, Jessica
asked Trudy if it would be okay to give that
quilt to a higher cause dear to both their
hearts, "Run for the Fallen Idaho," and grandma
thought that a fine idea.
Trudy's quilt, painstakingly made by hand for
Jessica, is being auctioned on eBay, and 11
people have placed bids so far. With a little
over four days and 14 hours left, the price
offered thus far is a paltry $200.
ALL proceed from the sale of this quilt will
help in coordinating the 40+ mile relay run,
taking place in Bonners Ferry August 20, a mile
for each soldier, sailor, airman or Marine with
ties to Idaho to have died in the nation's most
recent wars in service to their country. While
most of our local events honor the dead, "Run
for the Fallen" honors and brings together the
living ... those who have to go on without
someone dear to them; father, mother, sister,
brother, friend.
Trudy didn't give away her granddaughter's
quilt. She gave her quilt to a granddaughter
intent on giving all she has to ensure that
those who've lost loved ones in war gain comfort
in knowing that they're not alone. To recognize
that the price of war isn't measured only in
lives lost, but in lives that go on.
"She (my grandmother) is teaching me to quilt,
so the next one will be mine!" Jessica said.
"But I'm already ashamed of it when I compare it
to hers! I have to remind myself that she's been
quilting for 15 years, and me only two weeks!"
Trudy's gift to her grand-daughter is now a gift
to all; the Fallen, and those of their families
and friends who love and miss them.
You can find Jessica's quilt, so beautifully and
painstakingly sewn, on eBay by
clicking here. Bid high.
Jessica loved that quilt and is grateful for the
love Trudy placed in every stitch.
"You are bidding on a handmade patchwork style
quilt," the eBay listing reads. "This lovely
Queen sized quilt is approximately 80 inches
long and 82 inches wide. The pattern has dark
green squares surrounding larger light green
squares with purple flowers, and the quilt is
bordered with a lilac colored flower border.
The backing of the quilt is done with white
fabric and coordinating purple flowers."
Jessica didn't say that it was the quilt meant
to comfort her.
Jessica and her family could have kept the quilt
and snuggled in it on our cold, cold mornings,
and none would have reason to argue.
With what she's learning from Grandma Trudy,
Jessica could even make, in time, her own family
quilt by her own hand.
That's not going to happen just now.
Her first quilt, she said, like the one her
grandmother gave her, is going to benefit "Run
for the Fallen," spreading comfort to those who
loved and lost in service to our country.
