This year's ninth-annual Rotary Club Kootenai
River Ride, taking place September 10 at the
Boundary County Fairgrounds, is being dedicated
to the memory of Tanya McCoy, a life-long
resident, teacher, family woman and business
woman who left us too soon when she lost her
life at the age of 39 in a vehicle collision in
Boundary County November 25, 2010.
In making the dedication, organizers remember
her great love of the outdoors and her unending
dedication to the youth of our community.
Once again, the ride will offer a choice of
three distances; with the 100K riders taking off
at 8 a.m., the 60K riders departing at 9 a.m.
and the 16k riders leaving at 9:30 a.m. All
three routes wind along the beautiful Kootenai
River and through the Kootenai National Wildlife
Refuge, routes full of spectacular scenery and
good opportunities to enjoy wildlife, waterfowl,
birds and more.
Individual registration for this year's ride is
$20, and a family of four can register for $40.
Each paid rider will receive a long-sleeve
tee-shirt, a route map and a riders bag of
gifts. At the end of the ride, there'll even be
a great potato bake feed.
Each rider is responsible for the mechanical
condition of your bike, though technicians from
Far North Outfitters will be on hand to tune up
and service bicycles. There will be several
stops along the way, including one at the
spectacular Myrtle Creek Falls, just a 10-minute
walk away. There will be healthy snacks and
beverages at each stop.
This year organizers are also offering
commemmorative CoolTech zipper jerseys for just
$50 each, and tickets are being sold for a brand
new bike, $5 each or three for $10.
To guarantee your tee shirt, please register by
August 30. A registration form and additional
information on the Kootenai River Ride is
