Birthday Fire turned
over to local control
|
September 18, 2011 |
Management of the 628-acre Birthday Fire,
burning high up in the Smith Creek drainage
since September 5, was turned back over to the
Bonners Ferry Ranger District this morning, and
the Type II Northern Rockies Incedent Management
Team led by Rick Kusicko has been released.
Helicopers remain available should the
still-smouldering fire flare up, and it's
anticpated that the fire will continue to keep
local Forest Service fire crews on alert until
there's a significant rain or snowfall to
finally put it out.
A number of roads, trails and areas in the
vicinity of the fire remain closed until further
notice, including Forest Service Road 281, Trail
21, Trail 347, Forest Service Road 2545, Trail
102, Forest Service Road 2443, Trail 17 and
Trail 18.
