U.S. Senator James Risch recently announced his
nominations to the United States military
academies for the 2012 school year, including
Reid Boorman, Bonners Ferry, nominated to attend
the U.S. Military Academy, West Point, New York. The nominees' names now go to each of the four U.S. military academies for final selection. Others selected by Risch from North Idaho include Joel "Parker" Heisey, Coeur d'Alene, also nominated to West Point; Eric Whitman, Priest River, and Rebecca Winzer, Coeur d'Alene, both nominated for the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, Kings Point, New York; and Hallie Bonnicksen, Kellogg, John "Gil" Givens, Post Falls, and Kylie Johnson, Coeur d'Alene, all nominated to attend the U.S. Naval Academy, Annopolis, Maryland. The nominations are a first step in the selection process, allowing each nominee to compete for an appointment. "These nominees have met the high standards required to attend our military academies and demonstrated a level of committment to our nation that is admirable," Risch said of each nominee, selected from throughout the state. "They are each truly deserving of this honor and I commend them for their efforts."
