Hippie Chic
Cosmetics and Day Spa owner Jess Bremer,
was working hard over the last few weeks
to get her new shop open, and she got a
lot of help her sister, Hattie Dally (r)
and Rachel Huneniuk (c), who traveled to
Bonners Ferry from Minnesota to help
ready for opening day. |
|
"God opened the door, so here I am!" said Jess
Bremer, Moyie Springs, who opened her new
business, Hippie Chic Cosmetics and Day Spa, on
Kootenai Street in downtown Bonners Ferry.
Inside the door of the building that for years
housed John Lang's State Farm Insurance, you'll
find myriad products, and all of it, be it the
many health care products or headbands, scarves,
hats or sunglasses, are made in Boundary County
by Boundary County residents.
Jess looked at commercial shelving, but nothing
quite fit the image in her head. Then it dawned
on her; her husband, Scooter Bremer, was very
handy. When she asked him if he'd mind building
the shelving and displays, he went right to
work, creating furnishings that fit right in
with the overall theme of the business;
wholesome, natural, local.
Even the art on the door and gracing every
container of Hippie Chic Cosmetics is local; the
beautiful pastel pond scene, with its floating
lily pad and flitting dragon fly is the creation
of one of Jess's neighbors, Gail Reoch.
Jess, who's been a Boundary County resident for
20 years, earned earned her cosmetologist's
license 17 years ago, but it went unused as she
and Scooter stayed plenty busy operating
Bremer's Nursery, a wholesale nursery near the
Montana line.
But two years ago, the long ago training came to
serve her well, when her sister-in-law,
Michelle, was diagnosed with cancer. When Jess
saw how much the chemo and radiation were taking
from her sister, she dusted off her long-ago
lore, went into the kitchen, and began
concocting all natural lotions, soaps and salves
to bring a measure of relief.
"I was just experimenting, playing around and
trying different recipes" Jess said, "and they
helped. It grew from there."
Now her line encompasses about anything you can
think of for health or beauty; a pure mineral
cosmetics line from foundations to mascaras, a
full array of sunscreens, natural organic skin
care products, baby lotions, salves, balms,
toners, body bars, soaps with essential oils,
hand salves for working men, lip balms and much
more.
While you're browsing, there's a coffee bar
offering frappuccinos, lattes and assorted ice
cold drinks to cool you down now that the
weather has turned hot. If you'd rather just sit
and enjoy your drink, be sure to bring your
laptop; she also offers free wi-fi.
And if you'd like to be pampered, Hippie Chic
Day Spa is what you're looking for; bringing
infrared sauna to Bonners Ferry for the first
time, full spectrum LED pain relief and
detoxification, steam facials, clay mask
facials, body waxing, mineral make up makeovers
and more, all available in individual sessions
or with money-saving monthly packages.
