Herald to host downtown block party

The staff at the Bonners Ferry Herald, 7183 Main Street, is kicking off Labor Day weekend by inviting everyone to head downtown, do a bit of shopping and stop by for an old-fashioned block party from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, August 31. It's the first block party ever for Boundary County's oldest business.

During the party, Main Street will be closed to traffic between Bonner and Kootenai Streets.

There'll be a band playing on the pavilion in Georgia Mae Plaza, the first 200 shoppers to stop in will enjoy free hamburgers, hot dogs, soda and cake and everyone who brings in receipts from  merchants dated that day will be able to enter any of several drawings for chances to win an assortment of great prizes donated by businesses throughout the community. And the more receipts you have, the better your chance to win!

Food donations for the block party were made by Super 1 Foods, Safeway and Akins Harvest Foods and several loal businesses, including the Boardwalk Boutique, La Mars Sales and Service, Top Secret, Sequels, Baby Go Round, Radio Shack, Bonners Ferry Herald, Huckleberry Variety, Wee Cycle, Gift Gallery, A Little Moore Quilting, and Beck’s Furniture, donated the some outstanding raffle items that folks who shop 'til they drop and stop by will be taking home.

The driving force behind the party, Jaycee Atkins, says it's a great way to get people to discover  or rediscover just how great the shopping is in Bonners Ferry, and to boost both the many outstanding merchants and spur the local economy.

"This is a great way to get people to spend their money here in Bonners Ferry," she said. "I'm so excited! This is my project and I've been planning it a long time. I hope you're able to make it!"
