Art in the Wild at refuge Saturday

 This
Saturday in Bonners Ferry, art and nature lovers
will have the opportunity to experience a new
event at Kootenai National Wildlife Refuge. Art
in the Wild, organized by the Refuge’s
non-profit group, Friends of Kootenai National
Wildlife Refuge, will bring together artists,
local food vendors, and presenters for a day of
family fun.
The event features many talented local artists
both exhibiting and selling their works, which
all must revolve around a theme of nature.
In addition, tasty local food prepared by JoJo’s
BBQ, Far North Deli, and the Badger’s Den will
be available.
Presentations on Wildlife Photography and Nature
Journaling aim to provide tips and tricks for
those hoping to combine their passions for art
and wildlife.
One of the biggest draws of the event will be
the debut of the Eagle Cam and the presentation
by Janie Fink, a Raptor Biologist.
“The Eagle Cam is something the Friends’ group
has been working on for a long time,” says
Refuge Manager Dianna Ellis. “We are really
excited to show how the set up will work, and to
get people interested in eagles with Janie
Fink’s presentation.”
Fink will be bringing two live eagles, a Bald
and Golden, to assist her in her presentation.
“We’ve had her at the Refuge twice before, and
there’s always been a lot of great feedback from
her presentations,” says Ellis.
Art in the Wild will also be awarding prizes to
the favorite artist, voted on by visitors, and
the winning classroom from Mt. Hall Elementary,
which are competing against each other in a
poster design contest. Patrons will have to vote
for their favorite poster, which will be on
display at the event.
While the Friends of Kootenai National Wildlife
Refuge host many events to bolster interest the
Refuge, like their monthly bird walks, Art in
the Wild will be their first foray into the
arts.
“It’s our hope,” says Outreach Coordinator Emily
Carpenter, “that the event will bring people out
to the Refuge who either haven’t been in a long
time, or at all. It’s absolutely beautiful this
time of year, and with all the events going on
it’s a great way to enjoy a Saturday with the
whole family.”
Art in the Wild will take place from 10 a.m. to
4 p.m., and is free and open to the public. For
