Kerry Grombacher to play the Pearl |
October 5, 2012 |
Kerry
Grombacher will appear in concert at the Pearl
Theater in Bonners Ferry at 7 p.m Saturday
October 6. In the spirit of the troubadours of
old, Grombacher’s contemporary folk and western
songs paint vivid portraits and tell fascinating
stories that are set in the landscape he’s
traveled and worked in, from the bayous of
Louisiana, through the desert Southwest, to the
Hi-Line of Montana and the forests of Oregon,
where he fought fires for the U.S. Forest
Service. Tickets are $10 at the door. The Cafe at the Pearl will open at 6:30 p.m. with snacks, desserts, wine, beer, and other beverages. Show starts at 7 p.m. Kerry Grombacher, who is sponsored by Elixir Guitar & Mandolin Strings, is making his second appearance in Bonners Ferry. A former Oregon wildland firefighter, Grombacher performed at a Fire District's Fund Raiser in Gladys May Park near the close of the fire season in September 2003. “I was given a Pulaski to commemorate the concert, and I’ve got it displayed prominently in my office. There could not have been a more appropriate gift, nor a more potent symbol of my connection with wildland firefighters, whose tireless work keeps us all safe,” Grombacher said recently. “I’m very happy to return to Bonners Ferry and I’m looking forward to seeing my friends and to making new acquaintances.” In the course of his nationwide tours, Kerry has sung his songs on stages as varied as the Newport Folk Festival (Newport, Rhode Island) and Cowboy Songs & Range Ballads (Cody, Wyoming), the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival and the Durango Cowboy Poetry Gathering (Durango, Colorado). In addition to appearances at folk festivals and cowboy gatherings, he performs regularly at coffeehouses, house concerts and other folk music venues and he has been featured on “River City Folk,” the folk music interview program that is heard across the country on public radio stations. Kerry Grombacher’s most recent album of western songs is “It Sings in the Hi-Line.” His earlier recordings are “Sands Motel,” “Riding for the Brand,” “Dreams of New Orleans,” and “Home to the West.” Kerry’s songs have been recorded by other artists, including Ed Stabler, Lorrie Keating, The Texas Trailhands, Duke Davis, Gary Prescott, Trails & Rails, and Earl Gleason, and he has a song on the new children’s album, “Cowboy Playground,” released in the United States and sixty foreign countries this year by the Putumayo World Music/Putumayo Kids record label. Nalini Jones, of the Newport Folk Festival, says “Kerry Grombacher is the best kind of songwriter, with lyrics that take us on journeys to places we’ve never visited before, and melodies so pure and true that they seem to rise up from the plains...” Cowboys & Indians Magazine said songwriter Kerry Grombacher “…is one of the West’s new breed, who builds on, embellishes, expands, and updates traditional Western themes.” |
