South Boundary Fire hopes RV owner returns |

After spending much of the day Friday working a
major accident on U.S. 95, South Boundary firefighters were
called out a second time last night to both
fight a fire and to control traffic when a
recreational vehicle was reported on fire on
U.S. 95 shortly after 11 p.m. ... not too far
from where they'd been earlier. That RV was nearly a total loss, and South Boundary Fire Chief Tony Rohrwasser, who never learned the owner's name as he was rushed to the hospital and released, hopes he comes back to get his safe, which was saved. "I haven't learned the owner's name," he said, "we were busy fighting the fire and he was rushed off before I had a chance to meet him." Tony said the RV was registered in Montana, and the family in it, all safe, including the owner and the family dog, were on their way to California. "I hope they come back," Tony said, "we have their safe and a couple of pictures we were able to save. I'd like to give them back." Sheriff's deputies were on scene first, and likely have the pertinent information to reunite the family with their belongings, but dispatchers called today said they're not authorized to release such information to the media, and no one was available who was. The person who wants to return the property doesn't know who to return it to; the person who owns the property, back on the road to California after a most misfortunate happenstance, likely doesn't know yet that some of his property was saved. I'm reminded of a 1967 movie, one of my favorites, "Cool Hand Luke." Captain: You gonna get use to wearing them chains after a while, Luke. Don't you never stop listening to them clinking, they gonna remind you about what I been saying for your own good. Luke (Paul Newman): I wish you'd stop being so good to me, Captain. Captain: Don't you ever talk that way to me. What we've got here is failure to communicate! |
