Linda Alt 'Beta Woman of the Year' |
April 24, 2013 |
"What a beautiful day, blue sky and sunshine
this morning," Linda Alt wrote on Facebook this
morning. " Just needs to warm up a bit! Have to
say yesterday was an amazing day." While her work is largely unseen, not many good things go on in Boundary County that Mrs. Alt hasn't played a part in making happen. And it's nothing new ... she's been giving to this community her whole life. "Most of you know I spend lots of my 'spare' time helping in organizations and working on committees around the community. It is something I do because I want to help where I can," she wrote. After graduating from Bonners Ferry High School, raising a family and tending the family farm, she embarked on a long career in public service as the person behind the desk at the high school and as the lady behind the desk at the County DMV. Outside that office was a cartoon depicting the typical experience with that agency; long waits, long lines, impersonal service, Those who noticed it always had a chuckle ... that never happened here. She was doing what she normally does yesterday when her day got better. "At our Rotary meeting yesterday I received a nice thank you and gift card for working on the CommUNITY Breakfast that was held last weekend. (Quite a success, I might add.)" She wasn't ready for the Beta Sigma Phi Founder's Day Dinner Tuesday evening. "I got another surprise. Named "Woman of the Year!" she wrote. They snuck up on her, giving her back her old barbecue, transformed. "Being the creative ones they are (especially Joanie, but all of you are fantastic!), she wrote, "I was given a planter. Not just any planter. They repurposed an old BBQ and added a few gardening tools. So cute." Thank you girls!! There are so many in our community that do as much or more than I, but thank you for this honor. |
