Heat advisory issued

The National Weather Service, Spokane, has
issued a regional heat advisory, including
Boundary County, in effect from noon Monday
through 11 p.m. Tuesday, forecasting potentially
record high temperatures Tuesday of 100 to 110
degrees in most low lying areas.
The elderly and those who work outdoors are
particularly advised to take precautions.
When possible, strenuous outdoor activity should
be scheduled to take place in early morning or
late evening hours; those who must work through
the heat of the day are advised to plan for
extra rest periods in air conditioned or shaded
places.
Wear loose fitting, light colored clothing and
be sure to stay hydrated, drinking extra water
to replace body moisture lost through sweat.
Look out for heat exhaustion; profuse sweating,
a rapid heartbeat, confusion, headaches, nausea
and dizziness; anyone showing even mild symptoms
should be moved to a cool, shaded area, given
plenty of water and cooled down with water or
ice.
Heat exhaustion, when sweating stops, skin gets
hot to the touch, nausea, dizziness or vomiting,
is a critical condition requiring immediate
medical attention; if symptoms progress to that
point, get the victim to the coolest place
available, cool immediately with fans, ice and
or water, give water if the victim is able and
call for medical help.
Neighbors are encouraged to keep an eye on ill
or elderly relatives and neighbors to ensure
they are coping with the expected heat, as they
can succumb to heat exhaustion or heat stroke
quickly. |
