After 18 holes of golf, the 66 golfers in the
Fifth Annual Fry Healthcare Foundation Golf
Tournament were ready to escape from the sharp
wind and come inside the Mirror Lake Golf Course
dining area for the steak dinner prepared by the
Golf Course manager Ralph Lotspeich.
A fun time was had by all: volunteers who
masterminded the tournament, and the golfer’s
who played the course on Friday, June 14.
Over $7,000 dollars profit was raised from the
tournament.
The Fry Healthcare Foundation was formed by
community members to serve as a non-profit
agency dedicated to collecting and dispersing
funds, goods and services to meet the ongoing
needs of Boundary Community Hospital. The
Foundation members’ primary interest is
fostering lifelong healthcare for our community.
All the money raised at the Golf Tournament will
be used for that end.
The Tournament’s two-person team winners are
Glenn Fodge of Bonners Ferry and Russ Brisboy of
Sandpoint. The first place prize was worth
winning. They won clubhouse passes for two to
seventeen Northwest Golf Courses; valued at
$1,020.
“Many hands make light work,” was true in the
case of the tournament, but special recognition
should be given to Linda Hiatt, president, Fry
Healthcare Foundation; Teresa Rae, Golf
Tournament Coordinator, and Richelle Rode, Prize
and Sponsorship Coordinator, for all the hours
and planning they put into this very successful
fund-raiser.
At
6:30 p.m. on the dot, Life Flight’s blue
helicopter flew overhead then circled the Mirror
Lake Golf Course clubhouse.
The skies had cleared forming a bright blue
background as the helicopter circled. Life
Flight Network provides medical transportation
for the people of Boundary County who need air-flighted
in certain medical situations.
Jim Leonard of Life Flight Network spearheaded
the Great Golf Ball Drop.
Local community members purchased 420 golf balls
at $5 each, raising $2,100.
Each
ball was numbered and dropped over the ninth
hole of the golf course using a scissor lift
following the helicopter’s visit. Along with 419
other golf balls, golf ball number 201,
belonging to Michael Stevens, hit the ground
then began slowly separating itself from the
rest of the gaggle of golf balls as it meandered
towards the ninth hole.
Finally, lucky number 201 dropped into the cup.
Stevens won a 55 inch LED Insignia Flat Screen
Television donated by Life Flight Network and
valued at $1,000.
Tournament sponsors were; Eagle Sponsors — Idaho
Forest Group, Yellowstone Insurance Exchange,
Kootenai Health and Boundary Computers; Birdie
Sponsor — Riverside Auto Sales; Par Sponsors —
J.B. Tire and Automotive, Panhandle State Bank,
EL Internet, and Potlatch Union; and Donators—

Transition Center.
Boundary Community Hospital Community Relations
Coordinator Marcia Morman says, “thank you to
all sponsors, volunteers, players, and Mirror
Lake Golf Course staff for a successful
tournament. See you next year.” |
