Michael Meier Boundary County Public Information Officer Be advised the Deep Creek Loop and Lion's Den Road temporary road closures could occur on both of these routes as early as next week due to Federal Emergency relief projects. The Deep Creek Loop project is located one mile south of the US 95 junction just west of the Golf Course and the Burlington Northern Railroad underpass, the Westside/Lion's Den project is located one mile south of the junction of Lion's Den Road and Riverside Street. Both projects should be completed by the end of October. In the meantime, it may be necessary at times for motorists to access Highway 95 via a detour through Pleasant Valley and Moravia over Lookout View Road and Pleasant Valley Loop. The south end of Deep Creek Loop has been closed two miles north of Naples since July for a bridge replacement. It will probably remain closed until the end of October as well, making the Lookout View Road detour the only option if the Lions Den Road route is closed. We are not sure if, or for what duration the Lions Den Road route will be closed at this time, but that should be determined at a pre-work meeting scheduled for next Tuesday. Boundary County has been preparing for this since spring with improvements to sight distance, roadway width (where possible) and dust abatement over the detour route. A sudden increase in traffic over the detour will necessitate some increased levels of maintenance including grading, watering, and compaction. It may be necessary to pilot large loads that need to utilize the road as well, although this should be an infrequent occurrence. The detour will be posted a maximum speed of 25 miles per hour. Please be patient and careful especially on the hill and watch for trucks and maintenance vehicles. Plan a few extra minutes ahead in your day so you can get where you are going safely. Please call Road and Bridge at (208) 267-3838 with any concerns or special needs. |
