E-smokes to be banned at schools

For some things, appearances are everything,
even though they can be deceiving. On the
recommendation of School District 101
Superintendent Richard Conley, the school board
of trustees on Tuesday removed a measure of
deceit as regards tobacco.
If it looks like tobacco, it will not allowed in
a public school building or its grounds.
The school board unanimously agreed; "To
continue an environment that is tobacco free,
the board of trustees is banning all imitation
tobacco products ..."
The new policy is aimed at the new
"E-cigarettes," but it carries a bit further.
Those round cans of jerky that resemble cans of
snuff?
Gone.
"Electronic cigarettes or any other
type of advice that may look like or represent
tobacco type products" not allowed.
"It can be a nightmare trying to figure out if a
puff of smoke is coming from a cigarette or a
supposedly safe e-cigarette," Conley said. "We
don't know if that round ring in the back pocket
is a can of snuff or a can of jerky, and who's
to say a can of jerky hasn't been emptied and
filled with snuff unless you check?"
While it's not policy yet, the board
wholeheartedly agreed and approved the first
reading ... it will be. |
