Common Core meeting slated
|
October 11, 2013 |
A community meeting aimed at looking at the dark side of
the new "Common Core" educational standards being adopted in
Idaho and 45 other states will be held at 11
a.m. Saturday, October 19, in the Bonners Ferry
High School auditorium.
Bonners Ferry mom Lynda Fioravanti will disclose
how Common Core is being implemented in the
state and Boundary County, a recorded message
for Boundary County by Idaho Superintendent of
Public Instruction Tom Luna, a recorded message
by Idaho Senator Russ Fulcher, who serves on the
state education committee, and a discussion by
educational researcher Sharon Hanek, who has
specialized in Common Core standards since 2009.
The program will look at some of the perceived
dangers of Common Core; the ideological changes
it requires, the promotion of a collective way
of life, the lowering of educational standards
and the "data mining" that goes along with
implementation.
Everyone interested is encouraged to attend; to
find out more, call Fioravanti at (208)
267-0266. |
