Northern Air
Fall is settling in, and back again are the
cool, clear fall days that are perfect for
getting up in a plane to see the fall colors and
the fresh new snow on the peaks.
Ericka
Johnson has been taking advantage of the good
weather and on Friday, October 11, in
celebration of her 17th birthday, she became the
newest and youngest private pilot in Boundary
County.
Ericka took her first solo flight on her 16th
birthday after attending the private pilot
ground school at Northern Air. She whizzed
through her check-ride in only four hours and
still had energy to take her mom on her first
flight as a new pilot in her family’s Cessna
150.
The last huckleberry pancake breakfast of the
season was held on September 28, with another
great turnout of about 145 satisfied pancake
eaters despite low clouds and rain.
There weren’t many planes that flew in on such a
rainy day, and the great turn-out showed how
much support goes in to the fly-in breakfasts
from the local community!
Thanks to everyone who devoured a couple of
pancakes this year and to all the volunteers
from the local EAA club to made it happen!
This year the record turnouts at all of the
breakfasts helped fund several Youth Flight
Scholarships to local Boundary County Youth.
Another donation of $2,000 was made to the
Bronson Parsons Memorial Scholarship to help
fund yet another new pilot through ground school
and initial flight training.
Scholarship application details are available on
the EAA website,
http://www.757.eaachapter.org/ scholarship.htm,
or stop by Northern Air at the Boundary County
Airport to pick one up.
The scholarships are available to Boundary
County youth between ages 16 and 18.
Applications are due by December 1, 2013. Call
(208) 267 4359 for more information. |
