Chief Cliff Kroeger passes

Bonners Ferry is saddened to report that beloved
former Bonners Ferry Fire Chief Cliff Kroeger,
91, passed away at the Boundary Community
Hospital Extended Care Facility at around 5 p.m.
today, many of his family at his side.
Cliff was born July 26, 1922, at his family's
Hunston Street home in Oroville, California, the
son of Oroville's fire chief. Some of his
earliest memories were hearing the fire alarm.
Like his father and two brothers, Cliff spent a
lifetime fighting fires, on departments in
Oroville, Carson, Nevada, and Cle Ellum,
Washington, He married his wife, Barbara, in
Carson City, Nevada, in 1950, and later moved
with his family to Bonners Ferry, where he ran
the printing press at the Bonners Ferry Herald
until his retirement in 1985.
He began volunteering with the Bonners Ferry
Fire Department in 1969 and became became Chief
in 1987, serving for ten years until his
retirement at age 75 in 1997.
Funeral arrangements are pending. Our sincere
