Area choirs forming

Auditions for a new area men's choir will be
held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, January 14,
and auditions for the women's choir will be from
7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, January 20 both at
Trinity Lutheran Church, 6784 Cody Street in
Bonners Ferry.
Auditions are for singers high school age
through senior citizens from Sandpoint, Creston,
Troy and Bonners Ferry.
No prepared material is required. Music reading
skills are desired but not required. Parts CDs
will be made available for chosen singers.
Auditions will be done one at a time, before a
selection committee only, on a first come first
served basis. Each audition takes 5-10 minutes:
you will not need to stay the entire time listed
and you can arrive after the start time listed.
Those auditioning should come warmed up and
ready to sing.
The selected men's chorus will rehearse Tuesday
evenings from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran
and the women's chorus from 7 to 8:30 p.mm on
Mondays.
Sixteen to twenty talented, dedicated singers
are sought for each choir.
Repertoire will include an eclectic variety of
styles, primarily but not entirely contemporary.
Multicultural works will be included. This
session will run January 21 through the
beginning of April. Performances to be
determined by the director in consultation with
the members. No fees are required for
membership.
The choirs will be conducted by Victoria Blake
Thompson. Accompanist for the men's chorus will
be Barb Nelson. For those who don't know Vicki,
she also directs the Bonners Ferry Community
Choir and Swingin' on a Star Youth Choir, and
has conducted multiple choirs for 18 years. Her
choirs have been selected performers for State
and Regional Music Educators' Conventions, and
for International Choral Festivals including
Voices 500 in Newfoundland and Music
Celebrations American Choirs Festival in
Austria.
They have also performed throughout the Inland
NW and in China, Ireland, Tanzania and Costa
Rica.
