Leah
Meister, Bonners Ferry, will be joining with
hundreds of people to walk 18 miles through the
night in the Out of the Darkness Overnight to
benefit the American Foundation for Suicide
Prevention on June 14-15. "I am in training, you may catch a glimpse of me walking along the highway," she said. "Yes, even in this weather!" She will be walking as a member of the "In Memory of Derrick J. Meister" team and her personal fundraising goal is $1,000, with the team striving to raise $3000. "I would appreciate any support that you give me for this worthwhile cause," she said.
"We need to reach those that are so desperate, but unwilling or do not know how to seek the help they need," she said. "We need to bring awareness to the public about the suicidal signs of those who are suffering." The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention is at the forefront of research, education and prevention initiatives designed to reduce loss of life from suicide. With more than 30,000 lives lost each year in the U.S. and over one million worldwide, the importance of AFSP's mission has never been greater, nor our work more urgent. "I hope you will consider supporting my participation in this event," Leah said "Any contribution will help the work of AFSP. Checks should be made payable to AFSP and are 100% tax deductible. Also, it easiest way to donate is through the web site with a debit or credit card." The Out of the Darkness Overnight to benefit the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention she is taking part in will be held in downtown Seattle beginning at dusk Saturday, June 14, and end Sunday morning at dawn. "Please visit my Overnight fundraising page if you would like to donate online or see how close I am to reaching my personal goal," she said. "Support me! " |
