Victor Mendez Student of the Month

 Having
goals is important to Victor Mendez, Upsilon
Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Women Educators’
student of the month for April. Whether it is on
the soccer field where he plays forward for the
team, learning new things in his classes and
achieving a 3.4 GPA, helping first graders learn
to read at Valley View where he volunteers, or
looking to his future at the University of Idaho
where he will attend in the fall, this senior
says he does his best when he has set goals.
Victor, an outgoing, friendly and positive
student, enjoys his government class, where he
is intrigued by the way our government is formed
in the three main branches and how those all
work to serve the people.
For his senior project he job shadowed a primary
teacher and, although he enjoyed the project, it
became evident to him that teaching required
much more patience than he had imagined.
His goal at the U of I is to pursue a degree in
criminology and a minor in Spanish that he hopes
to apply with the Border Patrol.
Some of his favorite things to do outside of
school are fishing, with Brush Lake being his
favorite fishing spot, swimming, and traveling.
His trip to Mexico City was most memorable, with
its large population of eight and a half million
people. Somewhat daunting, he was amazed that
everyone there seemed to be able to go on with
their lives using all the resources available to
them and get along.
Victor has two older brothers who are university
graduates. He attributes their accomplishments
and his to his father and mother, Juan and
Angelita. His father has wanted and worked hard
to get his sons a good education and give them
opportunities that he didn’t have. |
