County-wide art contest underway |
July 10, 2014 |
An art contest open to all residents of Boundary
County, ages 5 to 105, is now underway. Those
interested in participating have until August 1
to enter their work. This contest is held in
conjunction with an American Music Concert
Series to be presented in the county over the
next year.
Contest entrants are asked to design a poster
with the theme of "Traditional American Music."
Posters submitted in the contest should depict
the musical heritage of the Americas, including
unique musical forms that have grown out of the
American Experience prior to the 21st century.
Winners of the contest will be selected in each
of the following age categories:
5 - 9
10 - 14
15 - 18
19 and above
Winners in each age category will receive gifts
donated by local merchants. An overall grand
prize winner will receive a similar donated
gift, also a prize of $100 in cash, and that
winning poster will be used as the artwork
announcing and publicizing the American Music
Concert Series--concerts of traditional American
music forms--coming to Boundary County over the
next year.
This evening concert series, open to the public,
will bring performers of Native American,
Gospel, Jazz, and Bluegrass music to our county
over the 2014 - 2015 school year. Visiting
musicians performing at these concerts will give
presentations to students at the Middle School
and the High School.
And you can design the poster used to publicize
these concerts, by entering this art contest.
The art contest is a collaborative program
involving the Kootenai Tribe of Idaho, the
Boundary County Library, the Boundary County
School District, and area individuals and
businesses. In addition, is is partially funded
by the Western States Art Federation and the
National Endowment for the Arts.
