Local fire department observes National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend |
September 30, 2014 |
The Bonners Ferry Fire Department will host a
ceremony at Station 1 downtown on October 11,
beginning at noon, in connection with the 33rd
annual National Fallen Firefighters Memorial
Weekend observance. The event starts off with a parade of fire trucks beginning at Super 1 and winding its way through downtown, arriving at the fire station shortly after noon. At the station, the memorial list of firefighters who lost their lives in the line of duty around the nation this past year will be read, and a moment of silence will be observed. The station bell will be rung according to fire service tradition. Bonners Ferry Mayor Dave Anderson will read a city proclamation in honor of the memorial, and the flag will be lowered to half staff as City Fire Chief Pat Warkentin plays the pipes. The public is encouraged to come to honor the memory of the dead as well as encourage the living who continue to serve. In case of bad weather, the ceremony will simply move inside the fire station.
