ITD imposes speed restrictions on Highway 95

The Idaho Department of Transportation will
begin break-up speed restrictions Wednesday
morning, February 4, for drivers on a 16.5-mile
section of U.S. 95 through Boundary County,
close to the Canadian border, to protect against
potential damage due to pavements and soils
weakened by a combination of freeze-thaw cycles
and heavier vehicles.
Beginning Wednesday morning at 6:00 a.m., heavy
commercial vehicles more than 10,000 lb. GVW
will be restricted to 30 mph from Copeland
Junction to the Canadian Line (milepost
522-538.56). Trucks will be allowed legal axle
weights, but oversize and annual over-weight
permitted vehicles will not be allowed to
operate on the highway.
Three other Idaho highways have had ITD
restrictions since January 29, including:
- Idaho 41, milepost 8-39.06
- Idaho 53, milepost 0-14.3
- Idaho 54, milepost 0-8
When subjected to high speeds and heavy loads,
soft spots begin to wear, eventually breaking up
and creating potholes.
ITD is asking motorists to be patient when
traveling on highways where limitations have
been placed. |
