Badger Softball: On to State! |
May 7, 2015 |
Things were looking a little grim for the
Bonners Ferry softball team during Tuesday's
District Championship game. It was the middle of
the game, and the team was languishing at a
score of 4-1, where they trailed the league
champs and top seeded Timberlake Tigers.
Their pathway to the Idaho State Softball
Tournament appeared to be fading fast.
But at that low point, things started to change.
The Badgers loaded up the bases, and then sent a
freshman to the plate. That freshman, Kadi
Bateman, came through, hitting a grand slam home
run over the fence. With that stroke, the
Badgers now led 5-4.
Just a couple of batters later, Jorryn Bennett
uncorked another home run, scoring two, and
bumping the score to 7-4.
Suddently things were looking up.
And the Badgers didn't look back. From that
point, Bonners Ferry bats pounded out hit after
hit. Over the remainder of the game, they put up
eight more runs, while bottling up Timberlake
and keeping them away from home plate.
The game ended with Bonners Ferry claiming the
District Championship with the final score 15-4,
sending the Badgers to State.

The State Tournament begins next Friday, May 15,
at Ramsey Park in Coeur d'Alene, and will
continue through Saturday.
The Badger team had two players named to the
Intermountain All-League Team: Kadi Bateman and
Kassy Skeen. First year Bonners Ferry Head
Softball Coach Tomi Bateman was voted Coach of
the Year for the Intermountain League.
Congratulations to BFHS Softball, and good luck
at State!
