One of the area's biggest and best fireworks
programs • Extra touches this year to celebrate the Boundary County Centennial • Fund raising still going on • Raffle in progress for a pistol • Be there for a great show on the Fourth of July! It's about 25 days or so until Boundary County's Fourth of July Independence Day celebrations. That means the always fun Fourth of July Parade at Eastport, later in the day the Fourth of July Parade in downtown Bonners Ferry, and as evening falls, the always thrilling, colorful, and illuminating Fourth of July Fireworks program at the Boundary County Fairgrounds. We can say without hesitation that the annual Fireworks celebration in Boundary County easily rivals that of fireworks programs in much larger cities. Supervised and coordinated by Gary Leonard, the show seems to always leave those in attendance highly impressed with its remarkable and well-planned ensemble of fireworks. This year, fireworks organizers are putting in some extra touches to help celebrate the Boundary County 100th birthday celebration. Programs like this cost money, and so far those expenses have been met each year with donations from businesses, organizations, and individuals from all over Boundary County. This year, with the fireworks display only about 25 days away, fund raising for the show is coming down to the final few days. Organizers are estimating the show will require $7,000. About $1,200 more is needed to reach that amount. Everyone's help is needed. If you, or your business or your organization can help, donations for the fireworks program can be made at the front desk of City Hall in Bonners Ferry. Or, a donation check can be mailed to: July-Fourth P.O. BOX 1714 Bonners Ferry, Idaho 83805 All money donated will go directly to the Fireworks program. Another fun way anyone can help out is with the latest raffle fundraiser the fireworks folks have put together. "We are raffling a Kimber Tactical Pro II .45 ACP pistol," says Mr. Leonard. "Kimber is the top of the line handgun and a joy to shoot." Only 200 raffle tickets will be sold, which helps keep one's odds of winning in a manageable range. Tickets are $10 each. This Saturday (June 13), Super 1 Foods will have their annual Anniversary party event going on. Gary Leonard will be there from noon until 5:00 p.m. with raffle tickets ready to sell. Tickets an also be purchased anytime at MountainWest Bank, or by calling Mr. Leonard at 946-9579. To see the official poster for the raffle, with all the details and a photo of the pistol, click here. The drawing for the pistol will be held and the winner announced at the Boundary County Centennial July 4th Celebration at 9:00 p.m. Follow the event, see pictures of past celebrations, and check how fundraising is coming along by visiting the Boundary County Fourth of July website at: www.http://july-fourth.us/ Plan to come out and enjoy the great fireworks planned for this year's Independence Day. And if you can, consider making a donation to help the fireworks continue, or perhaps pick up a raffle ticket for the Kimber pistol. |
