On Tuesday, September 1, 2015, Boundary County
School District #101 will be hosting a FREE

parenting known as Love and Logic. This seminar
features nationally-recognized speaker Jedd
Hafer from Colorado Springs, Colorado. He will
also be speaking to the school district teaching
staff during their in-service week before school
begins. A filling and tasty spaghetti dinner and
dessert will be served at no charge prior to the
seminar. This dinner will be served at the BFHS
Commons from 4:30-5:30 p.m., and the
presentation will be at the BFHS Auditorium from
5:30-7:30 p.m. According to a press release from the Love and Logic Institute, "Love and Logic is a philosophy founded in 1977 by Jim Fay and Foster W. Cline, M.D. The Love and Logic Institute is dedicated to making parenting and teaching fun and rewarding, instead of stressful and chaotic. We provide practical tools and techniques that help adults achieve respectful, healthy relationships with their children. All of our work is based on a psychologically sound parenting and teaching philosophy called Love and Logic®." The seminar addresses parenting challenges, including, for example: Toddler tantrums… to teen driving Potty training… to their posts on Facebook Refusing to eat peas….to refusing to do anything Step-parenting, special needs and much, much more! Organizers of the seminar said, "The “Love” in Love and Logic means that we love our kids so much that we are willing to set and enforce limits. This “Love” also means that we do so with sincere compassion and empathy. "The “Logic” in Love and Logic happens when we allow children to make decisions, make affordable mistakes, and experience the natural or logical consequences. When we balance this with sincere empathy, they develop the following logic: The quality of my life depends on the quality of my choices. With the loving yet powerful tools of Love and Logic, we can help our children learn to make good choices and experience happy lives while maintaining their love and respect." Jedd Hafer, the featured speaker at the seminar sponsored by the school district, is the newest member of the Love and Logic speaking team. For more than 20 years Jedd has worked with severely troubled kids in treatment centers and alternative schools where he has witnessed time after time the effectiveness of Love and Logic skills. Mr. Hafer is the father of 4 kids, two who are adopted out of the foster care system. His experience with kids who have extreme challenges is translated in training staff and parents in the Love and Logic skills. He has presented in the past at conferences, staff trainings, and PTAs. His audiences have included teachers, childcare professionals, probation officers, corrections staff, churches, law enforcement personnel, corporate personnel, social workers and parents. He is a former touring professional comic. "Jedd's presentations are always filled with humor and passion. He blends his own style of humor with solid Love and Logic techniques," event organizers said in their press release. |
