Community in the running for High Five grant |

Bonners
Ferry is one of seven Idaho communities to be
selected as a finalist for a High Five grant,
and your vote could mean up to $250,000 to help
the community to reduce childhood obesity and
create a healthier environment.
This year’s seven finalists, Bonners Ferry,
Rexburg, Caldwell, Sandpoint, Plummer, Homedale
and Coeur d'Alene, were each selected based on
their commitment to making meaningful change in
their communities.
Awarded by Blue Cross of Idaho Foundation for
Health, Community Transformation grants are
designed to improve the health of Idaho youth.
The focus of the grant is to improve access to
healthy affordable foods, and increase physical
activity. This is done through cities in
collaborative community building — working with
stakeholders, including governments, schools,
nonprofits and businesses, to achieve lasting
change.
In a video made as part of the grant
application, Bonners Ferry Mayor Dave Sims spoke
of a number of ways the grant would have a
lasting and positive impact on the health of
children in our community, including helping to
expand 4-H and extension education programs to
help kids make good food and nutrition choices,
help fund the high school vo-ag greenhouse and
upgrade the 80-year-old municipal pool.

30, and voters can cast one ballot per day per
