Community Hospital hosting open house |
October 13, 2016 |
Boundary Community Hospital is throwing its
doors open to the public from 3 to 5 p.m. this
Friday, October 14, for tours of the facility,
the various hospital departments, and to provide
information to all who wish to see and learn for
themselves why the hospital is asking Boundary
County residents to pass a levy of $414,000 a
year for the next two years at the upcoming
general election in November. Those who attend the Open House can take a guided tour of the hospital, the Extended Care Facility nursing area, and the Outpatient Services department. Representatives from the x-ray department will be showing examples of CT scan images done with the hospital's brand new CT scanner (which has already been paid for and is not a part of the levy). The hospital lab will have information on advances in lab testing equipment. If you weren't aware that several common surgical procedures are routinely being performed at our local hospital on a weekly basis, you might want to find out more at the open house, where the hospital's surgical team will review what procedures are being done through their department right now, and the expanded surgical options that could become available here locally if the proposed levy passes. Tours will also be available of the hospital's Rehabilitation Department, where teams of Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, and Speech Therapy work daily with Boundary County residents who have been injured, who are recovering from surgery, or with other medical issues. Those visiting this department will likely be impressed with the extensive equipment and the therapists who help those patients to literally get back on their feet. While you are on the hospital tour, you can walk right up and ask to talk to the hospital's Board of Directors, who will be available to answer any questions about the operation of the hospital, and about the proposed levy. The hospital board is made up of local county residents who oversee and govern the hospital in its provision of medical services to the community. Also on hand will representatives of the Fry Healthcare Foundation, the non-profit agency dedicated to collecting and dispersing funds, goods and services to meet the ongoing needs of Boundary Community Hospital and Extended Care Facility. The dedicated members of this Foundation have raised over $1 million over the years, money they have used to purchase state-of-the-art medical equipment, finance facility construction and renovation and fund ongoing programs and services at the hospital. Representatives of the Hospital Auxiliary will also be at the open house. This group also sponsors events to help raise funds for the hospital. If you would like to find to find out first hand what is going on at the hospital, to see for yourself what is available there, what the needs are, and how the requested funds will be used, you are invited. |
