BCMS students get progress reports, go to the
polls and more |

Midquarter progress reports were sent home last
Wednesday with students. I can’t believe we are
already 1/8 of the way through this year! If you
did not receive your child’s progress report,
ask your child why ... and then give us a call!
BCMS recently engaged our students in a mock
election.
Thanks to the help of many community members, we
were able to allow the students to “register” on
actual registration cards (which we then
disposed of) and then vote for president. We
also had an exit poll asking which issue was the
most important this election year.
Here are the results: Trump: 78%, Clinton: 21%.
Issues: Terrorism, 22%, Gun Control, 21%, Civil
Rights and Social Issues, 14%, Immigration, 13%,
Broken Government, 10%, Education and College,
9%, Jobs and Trade, 5%, Climate Change, 3%,
Foreign Policy, 2%, Income Inequality, 2%.
The aggregate results were also sent to Channel
1 news, a student friendly news program several
of our classrooms use daily. Many thanks to the
staff and community members who helped put this
together.
Halloween is on a Monday this year. BCMS will
allow students to dress in costumes during the
day. No weapons, masks or face covering of any
kind, nor are clowns allowed. Students with no
Ds or Fs Monday morning will be allowed to
participate in end of the day activities
including a Halloween Dance from 3 to 4 p.m.
Cross Country season is over! Not only did we
have 42 students participating, they were
performing well all season. Both boys and girls
teams finished second at districts!
BCMS is proud of our student athletes and their
commitment.
Football has also ended for the season. Fans at
our final home game were able to watch our
eighth grade team win by a count of 27-6 and
enjoyed some decent weather, all things
considered. Our football players showed a lot of
growth this season and we were excited to see
the students putting in the effort needed to
succeed.
Our school recently hosted a pep assembly led by
our leadership students. As always, it was full
of fun games and competitive spirit. The sixth
grade class won the scream off. The seventh
grade class won the team scavenger hunt. The
staff won the plunger relay. The eighth grade
volleyball players beat the eighth grade
football players in volleyball. The cheerleaders
were able to teach our school the Badger Beat (I
still can’t do it right) and the Bop It dance.
I believe the students enjoyed the chance to
show their spirit and celebrate the many student
athletes at BCMS.
BCMS also recently took part in the Great Shake
Out earthquake drill as part of a worldwide
earthquake preparedness event.
BCMS is currently looking for parents who would
be interested in discussing ideas and sharing
information from Boundary County Middle School.
We are also interested in eighth grade parents
willing to be on the eighth grade promotion
dance committee.

BCMS students and staff are recognized monthly
for different behavior traits through our
Citizen of the Month program.
September’s trait was "Respect," and our winners
were: Maggie Bateman (sixth), Geneva Bontrager
(seventh), Jeannie Pinkerton (eighth), and Jacob
Garrison (staff).
