Winter storm could affect Thanksgiving travel |

The National Weather Service has issued a winter
storm watch in effect from late Wednesday night
through 10 a.m. Friday for an area including
Boundary and Bonner Counties.
Snow is forecast to develop in the Cascades late
Wednesday night and spread across the northern
mountains through Thanksgiving Day, bringing
from three to seven inches of snow to the
valleys and eight to 16 inches at higher
elevations.
A rain/snow mix is possible in the lower valleys
Wednesday afternoon and evening before it turns
to snow, and snow is expected to continue
through Friday morning.
This system has the potential for significant
snow accumulations that could impact holiday
travel. Motorists traveling in the watch area
should allow extra time to reach their
destinations.
With colder, potentially adverse weather upon
us, the Boundary County Sheriffs Office says
snow tires and four wheel drive do assist in
safe vehicle operation during this time of year,
but warn that neither is a fix for unsafe
driving habits.
Slow down, keep your distance from vehicles in
front of you and allow yourself increased
reaction times and stopping distances. Be aware
that you can't always see black ice on the
highway.
Be safe and enjoy your holiday season. |
