Fit & Fall Proof class starts Monday |
September 14, 2017 |
The Bonners Ferry Senior Hospitality Center will
begin the fall session of the “Fit and Fall
Proof Class” at 10:45 a.m. Monday, September 18.
The class is specifically targeted for older
adults or anyone who would like to improve their
fitness or has a history of falling or a fear of
falling.
The free, houir-long class will meet at the
Senior Hospitality Center, 6635 Lincoln Street,
Bonners Ferry, at 10:45 a.m. each Monday,
Wednesday and Friday through December 15.
The class will take you safely through a process
of improving strength, flexibility, mobility,
balance and endurance. The instructors are Karen
Meeker, a physical therapist and a Feldenkrais®
practitioner, and Cynthia Knittel, a physical
therapy assistant.
Based on their knowledge of movement and the
importance of attention in learning to move more
easily, the class will address functional topics
such as posture improvement, rising from sitting
to standing, reaching for the floor, coming up
from the floor, reaching into a cupboard,
turning to look behind you in your car — all
those activities that typically become more
difficult with age.
During the process, you will learn strategies to
help ease pain and discomfort, prevent injury,
increase energy, reduce stress and improve
concentration. With the use of music and other
“toys,” the sessions are fun and engaging.
Do we stop playing because we get older or do we
get older because we stop playing? Come and play
with us at the Senior Hospitality Center!
