The rugged terrain of northern Idaho can provide
some challenges for first responders. With help
from the Burlington Northern Sante Fe Railway
Foundation, Bonner County EMS was recently able to
purchase an ASAP all terrain off-road ambulance.
This ambulance is already helping save lives. In
October, it was put to the test twice in one day
with the vehicle performing beyond first
responder's expectations.
"It got us through some pretty rough country on
the first call and it handled a nasty, muddy cow
fields on the second," said training coordinator
Bob Abbott. "That part was really no surprise -
we had put it through its paces in training -
but what was new to us was just how stable the
ride was for the patients and attendants in the
back. It is so superior on unstable terrain,
that on the second call we chose to transport
the patient in the ASAP rather than the
ambulance due to the stability. It is an
impressive piece of apparatus." |
