By Theresa Wardle The Naples Easter Egg Hunt was a big success, and thanks to all the hard work of numerous volunteers and for Linda Rs leadership. We put together 1,000 eggs for all the Naples Elementary students and some home schooled students who braved the weather for candy-filled eggs. The extra eggs were distributed at "Soups On" the following day. We were also able to provide seven families with Easter dinner baskets that included bread, mayonnaise and more to make use of the leftover ham. Thanks to the Naples Helping Hands, Soups On, Naples General Store, Shirley A., Linda R. and all those who contributed time, dollars and donations! Speaking of Soups On, their Friday soup gathering is really taking off. Each week they have been averaging over 60 folks who come together for delicious soup and community companionship. It's such a success that they are in need of cooks to help prepare the pots of soup each week. Please call Oma, (208) 304-0011, if you'd like to be part of the wonderful group of people who help make the soup or if you'd like more information. We've started a Naples Community Cupboard committee that will begin moving forward to establish a program that will provide food to those in need. Fire Chief Tony Rohrwasser has confirmed that we can use the old church in Naples next to the fire station, but now we need to take care of all the details. Please let us know if you'd like to help with the committee of with distribution of food in the future. Lisa Robbe spoke at the last Naples Community Group meeting about her exciting plans to establish a zip-line/canopy course on her property. The county planning and zoning commission gave the proposal a thumbs up, and county commissioners will hold a second public hearing at 9:30 a.m. Monday, June 13, to make a final decision. You can find out more about that application by clicking here. Dale had a great idea for having a weekly sporting event where everyone can get involved. You may remember we looked into using the Naples School gym once a week during the winter months, and we may set something up for this fall and winter. Several of us are interested in creating a community softball league to play one night a week during the summer. We'll be checking to see if we can use the baseball diamond at the school, but in the meantime, let us know if you're interested. The Naples Community Potluck is on for 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, July 9. So far, it sould like we'll have music, volleyball, horseshoes and a silent auction in addition to the potluck itself. We also hope to announce the winning slogal for Naples ... Be sure to submit your ideas at the Naples General Store, the fire station or at Naples School. Since Naples is named after Naples, Italy (famous for its pizza), we are making plans to hold the first Naples Italian Festival September 17. We have some great ideas and expect it will be quite an event. We'll have lots of time to prepare after the Community Potluck. We are looking for someone who would like to be our community group secretary and help take minutes at the meetings. Let us know if you're interested. Also, we're still in need of a web site developer to expand our website, www.thenaplescommunity.com, with business links, historical information, local stories, events and more. Sounds like a lot of people enjoyed the grand opening of the Fall Creek Fire Station and Moose Valley Farm's Appreciation Day. Also heard there was a great gathering for the Copper Mountain Band at the Great Northwest Territories Events Center. We will be holding two meetings in June; Monday, June 6 and Monday, June 27, since the first Monday in July is Independence Day. All meetings are at 6 p.m. at the Naples Fire Station community room. Hope to see you there! Finally, the Boundary County School Board has approved Naples Elementary as a magnet school! Please mark your calendars and make plans to attend the Learning Fair/Mini Carnival from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, June 2. To learn more about the magnet school concept, call Linda Lee at Naples Elementary, (208) 267-2956, or call me, (208) 290-1233. Quite a bit going on for a little town, isn't there?!
