Cancer Society benefit sets record |
October 29, 2011 |
The American Cancer Society dinner held October
20 at the Chic n'Chop Restaurant raised a record
$1,451. This was the 24th year the dinner has
been held in Bonners Ferry to benefit the local
area. As always, the dinner was held at the Chic n'Chop and owner Ron Erickson worked many hours preparing the feast; all-you-can-eat spaghetti, garlic bread, salad and drinks. At $5 per person, it's a great deal! Along with the employees of Chic n'Chop who volunteer their time to wait on the patrons, there are other local people who volunteer their time to help. Toni Pennock, Connie Purington and Leslie Barker have waited tables for the event for years. Erma Clark has been the cashier and Valdie Burkholder has helped out in various capacities. Rockey Burkholder and Marty Becker have been seen carrying signs advertising the dinner in front of the restaurant, which brings in people passing by from the area as well as those traveling through. Teresa Becker, the event's chairman, appreciates the community for its support. Seventy percent of the proceeds from the dinner stay in our community. |
