Young Badgers shine at Hershey meet |

Several Bonners Ferry kids made the trip to
Timberlake High School, Spirit Lake, June 16,
and several of them did well enough to qualify
for the regional meet coming up July 7 at the
University of Oregon's Hayward Field, Eugene,
Oregon. Top finishers there will be able to go on to the 35th annual National Hershey's Track Meet August 2-5 in Hershey, Pennsylvania. In the boys 9-10 year old age group, Benjamin Tadlock had an outstanding day, winning the 200 meter run in 34.60, coming in second in the 400 at 1:26.5, and finishing fifth in the standing long jump with a 5'6" leap. Eli Richards finished third in the 400 at 1:32.74. Ty Bateman came in second in the standing long jump wit a 6'2 1/2" jump and he finished fourth in the 100-meter dash at15.5.Nathaniel Varelman finished the 50-meter dash in fifth place and Chase Tucker came in fifth in the 100. In the boys 11-12 age class, Caleb Pease, Seth Bateman and Thomas Mooney-Rivkin all came home with first place finishes. Mooney-Rivken took the top spot in the standing long jump with a 7'1" leap, and he took second in both the 100-meters, 15.32, and the 200-meters, 37.5. Caleb Pease won the 200-meter, with a time of 35.5, and Bateman won the softball throw with a toss of 144'10" followed by Derek Lopez, who came in second with a 143'5" toss. Dan Tadlock finished fourth in both the800-meters and the standing long jump, and Donavon Varelman finished fifth in both those events. It was Varelman boys all the way for Bonners Ferry in the 13-14 bracket. Jeremiah Varelman won the 200-meter at 28.6, and finished second in the 100-meters at 12.34; Matthew Varelman came in fourth in the 200 and fifth in the 100. On the girl's side, Emmaline Pinkerton won two events in the 9-10 age bracket; taking the 100-meters in 16.08 and the 400 at 1:23. She also took second in the standing long jump with a 5'6 1/2 jump. Katie Clairmont placed third in the 50-meter dash with a time of 8.8Serenity Fahey came in third in the 200-meters at 39.63, and Anna Bliss took fourth in the 400-meters and fifth in the softball throw. In the 11-12 category, Molly Flower took fourth in the 200 meters at 33.46 and fifth in the 100-meters at 15.56. |
