Badger boys take third at state

After going 6-0 in league play and sweeping the
IML district matches, the Bonners Ferry boys
soccer team traveled to Twin Falls and the
Sunway Soccer Complex and came away today with a
third place state trophy.
The Badgers opened state play against South
Fremont High School of St. Anthony, winning the
bout 1-0 with junior Victor Mendez finding the
back of the net 25 minutes into the first half,
with an assist from junior Jesus Mendez, one of
ten shots on goal for the Badgers.
In the goal, Badger All-IML senior Garrett Skeen
fended six of eight shots on goal made by the
Cougars.
On Friday, the Badgers faced off against the
Gooding Senators, who won the state 3A
championship, and fell 2-0, sending the Badgers
into the consolation bracket, where they faced
off today against the Redskins of Teton High
School, Driggs.
That game went scoreless until the second half
when All-IML senior midfielder Keaton Tremble
put through the goal at the 45:00, and the
Badgers held on to win, 1-0.
Skeen was credited with eight saves on 11 shots
on goal.
