New coach an old friend in cross country

Badger cross country runners returning from last
year will be meeting a new coach, again.
Tyler Warner, who did his student teaching at
BFHS and will launch his career as an educator
here this year, was an assistant coach under
Paul Bonnell last year.
After nearly a decade, Bonnell stepped
down earlier this year, and on unanimous
approval of the school board Tuesday, Warner
steps up ... and into the shoes of the very
coach who instilled his love of the sport.
Warner began running cross country in 2006 as a
Bonners Ferry Badger, and after graduating here
and earning his degree, he's back home. His
mentor, Coach Bonnell, is not only handing over
the reins, but assisting.
The first day of cross country practice will be
at 4 p.m. Friday, August 16.
"We will be meeting in the home bleachers at the
football field to hand out paperwork, meet and
greet teammates and coaches, and discuss the new
season," Warner said. "Students should be
prepared to go for a run, which includes having
proper footwear, adequate water, and proper
clothing."
He reminds students that free physicals for
freshmen, juniors and all new participants will
be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, August 6 at
Boundary Community Hospital. Parents should be
present to sign related paperwork for the
physicals."
Student athletes interested in trying out for
cross country can contact Coach Warner at (208)
946-0612 or the high school office.
Regardless of how the season goes, one thing is
certain ... this coach is hitting the ground
