Bear gates to open for winter
|
November 15, 2013 |
As forest visitors take to the woods to hunt
and/or collect firewood, the Idaho Panhandle
National Forests remind them that gates will be
opened on November 16 in the Selkirk Mountains
and on December 1 in the Purcell and Cabinet
Mountains of the Idaho Panhandle National
Forests’ North (Kaniksu) Zone.
The difference in opening dates between the two
areas is based on local research findings and
provides additional habitat security for grizzly
bears that have not yet denned. Gates will be
opened as weather conditions and personnel
availability allow.
Members of the public traveling on national
forest system lands are advised to obtain a free
copy of the latest Motor Vehicle Use Map (MVUM)
or call their local Forest Service office to
ensure their planned routes are open.
For questions or more information on scheduled
gate openings and recreation on the national
forest please contact your local Idaho Panhandle
National Forests office. |
