May 8, 2015 |
After a difficult and close loss in the District
Championship game on Monday, the Bonners Ferry
Badger Baseball team bounced back with a 10-0
shutout of Kellogg the following day to capture
the District second place. The Badgers still
have an opportunity to make it to the State
Baseball Tournament. As the second place team in
the District Tournament, they next will travel
to Grangeville for a play-in game against Weiser
on Saturday, May 9. The winner of that game
moves on to the State Tournament. (Story continues below these photos) Kellogg earned their way into Thursday's District game for second place after coming from behind in a late-game rally against Priest River on Monday. They had no rally left in them for Tuesday's game against Bonners Ferry. The Badgers picked up a some runs in the early innings, but did the big damage to Kellogg in inning number four. With two outs, Kellogg simply could not get that last out to end the inning, and Badger after Badger crossed the plate. Kellogg finally stopped the Badger onslaught when the score was 8-0. Bonners Ferry picked up one more run in the fifth inning, then ended the game early under the mercy rule in the sixth inning, when Bonners Ferry scored one more run to make the score 10-0. (Story continues below these photos) Weiser, the Bonners Ferry opponent in the play-in game, won the third place spot in their District III Tournament by defeating favored Homedale by a score of 5-1. Weiser's record on the season is 10 wins against 14 losses. The winner of the Bonners Ferry vs Weiser game will move on to the Idaho State Baseball Tournament, and will play District V champion Marsh Valley at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 14. |
