Senior Vince Bennett gave
up one hit and no runs through 6 innings and
finished with a three hitter as the Badgers won
3 – 1 in Bonners Ferry.
The win puts Bennett’s record at 2-0 for
the season.
The Badgers scored an early
run in the bottom of the 2nd inning
when Seth Bateman reached on an error and later
scored on an error from the Bulldog second
baseman.
The Badgers added two more runs in the
bottom of the 5th inning after
Bennett and Jesse Dunham reached based on a walk
and hit batter.
Both scored on a wild pitch and another
error from the second baseman.
In the Bulldog top of the 7th,
Paul Sundquist hit a one-out single and Talan
Dewey followed with another single.
Sundquist scored on an error from the
shortstop to narrow the lead to 3 – 1.
With runners on first and third with two
outs, Wes Holland was caught stealing by Badger
catcher Brady Bateman, who threw the Sanpoint
runner out to end the game.
“We figured they would try
to steal to get the tying run in scoring
position.
Brady made a perfect throw to get him
out,” Coach Turpin said.
Bateman has nailed 5 of 6 runners
attempting to steal so far this year.
