BFHS Cheer and Dance Teams at State Competition; Track Team at Lewiston Invitational
April 2, 2016
by Mary Fioravanti

Things have been busy for several BFHS teams in recent weeks. The dance and cheer teams got an early morning start on Thursday morning, March 17 and headed for state competition in Nampa, returning on Sunday evening.. It was a long weekend for the Lady Badgers, having a long bus ride to state, along with participating in back-to-back competitions. More on those events a little farther on in this story.

The BFHS Track Team also had a recent meet in Lewiston on Saturday, March 19.

The special track meet in Lewiston, the "Lewiston Invitational," is held once a year during the season for track teams across Idaho, and there was even a track team from neighboring Washington that showed up. There were about ten schools at the event and 30-40 students from Bonners Ferry participated. It was an all-day track event, along with a five hour bus ride there and home.

The BFHS Track Team didn't do as well as they hoped, although they had Badgers competing in every category. You name it: pole vault, sprints, long distance, hurtles, jumps, and field events. The track team reported it was fun and with the day being warm and sunny, you were lucky if you didn't get slightly sunburned.

The Idaho Cheer and Dance State Competitions were held at the Ford Idaho Center in Nampa. The BFHS Cheer team competed in three different categories: sideline, individual, and show. Cheer won 9th place out of 20, but sadly they did not place in any categories. The team still had a great time, however. One of the BFHS Cheerleader participants, Jada Miller, said "Although state can be a stressful trip, it is more than worth the memories and experience you get while there."

The BFHS Dance team had their share of contests as well. They first supported the cheer team as they performed their routines Friday, and the following day they had their own competitions to engage in. Saturday morning the dance team arrived at 6:30 a.m. and were busy with preparation and competitions until 7:30 p.m., making the whole day was over 12 hours long.

The dance team competed in four categories, including Hip Hop, Kick Routine, Pom Routine, finally topping everything off with their performance of the song Aye Chico in their last dance category.

Malorie Stippich, dance team captain and a graduating senior said, "It was a memorable year for me. I enjoyed spending time with the girls through the eight months of the season and getting to know them!" She relates to us that going to state for dance is a good experience for underclassmen to watch the larger dance teams with more training. She also mentions that it is always an eye-opening event for those underclassmen to view the broad scope of different levels of competition and see the many dance teams there.

The Lady Badger Dance Team did not place in any categories either, but they said they are not that disappointed with the results because they gave it their all and tried their hardest.
