Sandy Schnepf
to step down as Fair Board Administrator:
After serving eight years as Boundary County’s
Fair Board administrator, Sandy Schnepf has
decided that this upcoming fair will be her last in that
position. |
Museum
receives antique and collectible items:
Boundary County Historical Society and Museum
has been bequeathed numerous antiques,
collectibles, and household items from the
Estate of Michael Ross McCall, who passed away
September, 2014. |
New docks for the Rock Point Boat Launch:
Boundary County’s Rock Point boat launch (located on the dike
road along the river beyond the Fairgrounds) provides this
community with a place for all sorts of outdoor activities,
including boating and fishing. |
Boundary County students honored on Dean's Lists
of schools from around Idaho and beyond:
Congratulations to all the Boundary County
students whose hard work and dedication have led
to their being listed on the Dean's List at
colleges and universities around the area, for
the most recently completed academic term. |

New principal hired for Mount Hall and Naples
Elementary Schools: As the
community prepares for the back-to-school season, a lot of
changes are happening within our school district. One such
change is the hiring of a new principal for our two outlying
elementary schools, Mount Hall Elementary and Naples Elementary. |
Huckleberry picking reminders from your
Idaho Panhandle National Forest:
The huckleberry picking season is already upon us in north
Idaho, and due to the dry season recreational pickers are
finding fewer berries than in recent years. |

Public
meeting to discuss U.S. Highway 95 on Bonners Ferry's South Hill:
A public hearing will be held Wednesday, August
5, to accept comment on plans to improve the
section of U.S. Highway 95 that runs through the
South Hill area of Bonners Ferry, the Idaho
Transportation Department announced. |

Search teams locate missing kayaker on Kootenai
River:
KLCB Radio in Libby, Montana is reporting an
incident on the Kootenai River that turned out
OK, but which could potentially have had a bad
outcome. |
Flags flying at half-staff:
President Barack Obama today issued a
proclamation ordering that flags be flown at
half-staff beginning today until sunset on
Saturday, July 25. Flags will be lowered in
remembrance of the five U.S. service members who
were killed last week by a gunman at a military
recruiting center in Chattanooga, Tennessee. |

Area
fires coming under control:
The Baker’s Camp Fire remains at 49 acres. It is
currently at 90% containment. A 21-person
hotshot crew remains at the site to monitor and
work at the fire. |

SPOT Bus is doing well in Boundary County:
Since mid-April, the SPOT bus has been providing
public transportation for citizens of Bonners
Ferry. SPOT stands for Selkirks-Pend Oreille
Transit and these buses have routes throughout
Sandpoint, Dover, Ponderay, Kootenai and now
Bonners Ferry. |
Neighboring South Hill businesses work together
on shoe drive: With the start of a
new school year quickly approaching, ET Wireless and Bonners
Ferry’s local food bank (Community Action Partnership) are
working hard to make sure that every child has a new pair of
shoes to wear on the first day. |
Free sports physicals coming up:
Boundary Community Hospital’s Medical Staff and
hospital employees are volunteering their time
so youth in Boundary County participating in
sports receive a free physical. |
Long time business Bear Auto now under new
ownership: Located just at the top
of the North Hill, Bear Auto has been in operation locally for
the last thirty years. |
Beautiful antique aircraft visit Boundary County
Airport:
Boundary County residents were treated to a
beautiful display of antique aircraft on Monday,
July 13, and again the following day on Tuesday,
as members of the Puget Sound Antique Aircraft
Club brought their 2015 Pacific Northwest Air
Tour to our local airport. |

Camp Fire still with hot spots in steep area:
As of latest reports from this morning, the fire
remains at 49 acres, with 75% containment. |
July 13 |
Update on four area fires, including
Baker's Camp Fire: According to
reports from 11:00 a.m. this morning, helicopters were busy
yesterday dropping approximately 38,000 gallons of water on the
southeast corner of the fire. |

Boundary County knows how to celebrate a Fourth
of July!
We had it all: multiple parades, a
barbecue, family picnicking, games and
competitions, train rides, multiple
musical
performances, stirring renditions of the
national anthem and God Bless America
and Stars and Stripes Forever, a lucky
winner of a raffled fund-raiser pistol, lots of
loud, a stirring speech by an Idaho legislator,
and one of the best fireworks displays in the
Northwest (if not further). |

Land management agencies to implement additional
Stage 1 fire restrictions in Central and
Northern Idaho: With the threat of
wildfire danger increasing rapidly throughout many parts of
northern and central Idaho, local land management agencies will
implement additional Stage 1 Fire Restrictions. |
Our July 4th celebration: the effort
behind the scenes: After a parade,
live performances by local musicians, various family events, a
lively speech by Representative Heather Scott, and an
outstanding fireworks show, it is very safe to say that Boundary
County’s annual Fourth of July extravaganza was a smashing
success. |

Update on Boundary County's Bakers Camp forest
fire:
The Baker's Camp Fire, currently the largest
fire in the northern Idaho panhandle, continues
to burn as of yesterday afternoon, according to
information provided by the Idaho Panhandle
National Forest. |

No more mountain biking on Long Canyon trail:
Mountain biking on Boundary County's west side
Long Canyon Trail (Forest Service Trail #16),
long a magnet for mountain bikers in our area
and known as one of Idaho's more popular
mountain biking trails, is now prohibited with
recent changes announced in the management of
the west side's Long Canyon area. |
Two forest
fires burning in Idaho panhandle:
Forest fires are burning right now in at least
two areas of the Idaho Panhandle, one of the
larger fires being located in Boundary County,
according to information from the U.S. Forest
Service and the Idaho Panhandle National Forest. |

New principal hired for Valley View Elementary:
One big change will be happening at Valley View Elementary
School, as students and staff welcome their new principal, Mr.
Nathan Williams. |
Local school district and Idaho Department of
Education provide Summer Food Service Program:
Boundary County School District 101 is participating in the
Summer Food Service Program. In this federally-funded program,
meals will be provided to all children, ages 1-18, without
charge. |
North Idaho streamflows continue to be low:
An unusual combination of conditions last
winter, along with our current string of high
temperatures, and other factors, are leading to
markedly low stream flows in Boundary County
this spring and summer. |
Girls State inspires student leaders:
Three young women from Boundary County recently
helped organize and operate the government of
Idaho Girls State. |
"Stage 1" Fire Restrictions now in force in
North Idaho: With the threat of
wildfire danger increasing rapidly throughout many parts of
northern and central Idaho, local land management agencies
implemented Stage 1 Fire Restrictions, which officially began at
11:59 p.m. on June 30. |

Recently returned from their singing tour of
Greece, Northern Idaho and British Columbia
singers present the homecoming concerts for
their international touring choir, Spiritsong's

take Hunter Education now:
If your sights are set on hunting this fall and
you still need to complete Idaho’s hunter
education requirement, Idaho Fish and Game
advises that now is the perfect time to sign up

Boundary County basketball players
participate (and win) in Spokane hoopfest:
It took a Boundary County team to win the
championship in their bracket at a sweltering
Hoopfest this year. |

bear baiting:
Idaho Fish and Game is launching a negotiated
rule making process and wants to hear from the
public about proposed changes to bear baiting
rules. |

Mayor's view on city pool fees:
Recently there has been a stir considering last year's
implementation of a small fee structure at the city pool. It was
with great consternation that the city council placed a fee on
pool use last year. |
Supports prohibition of mountain biking
in Long Canyon area:
It's not that often the Forest Service makes the
"right" moves before being dragged into court,
but this prohibition of mountain bikes is
laudable, even though it represents virtually
the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the
scale of the landscape that should be closed to
motorized and mechanized abuse. |
